Email Scam Trying to Spoof IRS

You might find in your inbox an email from the IRS stating that their records indicate that "you are qualified to receive the 2008 Economic Stimulus Refund"... Well, DUH! Wasn't that the whole point of the Stimulus Package? But you know, this automatically raised flags the minute I saw the email in my inbox.

Just so you know what to look for, I checked the header information of the email and it originated from the Romania. When the IRS contracted/outsourced help from the Romania? This email was then processed by a server in the UK...

NETFLIX now offers watching movies ONLINE...

Netflix has introduced the ability to watch some of the movies in their library online, with the installation of a small program that comes attached to your browser (currently available for IE 6.0+). The plan it offers is that for every $1 you pay for your monthly membership (not including taxes), it translates to 1 hr of viewing movies.

So, if you pay a monthly membership fee of 3 at-a-time (unlimited) plan, you pay $17.99 a month, and you have 18 hours of instant viewing time per month. This limit resets every month on the day your billing cycle starts for the month and presently they have about 3,000 movie and episode titles available for immediate viewing.

Mysterious Phone Calls...

Just so you all know, I've been getting weird phone calls from numbers I don't recognize:

877-729-3974
Name Unknown
2:57PM 03/07/2006
3:25PM 03/07/2006
5:46PM 03/07/2006

Dialed back:
"You have reached customer service, you will be contacted..." [disconnect]
Redialed:
[busy signal]

At 5:46PM 03/07/2006 -- the phone rang again and this time I picked it up and got someone (he said his name was Tony) on the other end stating that I'm qualified for a Las Vegas Vacation Package in Las Vegas, Nevada. I told him that I'm not interested and basically disconnected him. A possible reason why you get a busy tone when you tried dialing that number, it's the only line he has and he's constantly making phone calls.

866-823-6836

"The toll free number you have dialed has been disconnected. No further information is available on this number."

At 5:03PM 03/08/2006 -- this time, I got Lisa on the other end stating that I've been entered for a Las Vegas Vacation Package in Las Vegas, Nevada. I told her that I've already received such a phone before and said that I'm not interested and disconnected.

231-491-8865

Coming home from San Jose, California

It was 4 days of fun in the sun... Okay, not really. Believe it or not, while it was balmy 70°F in Maryland, it was sometimes on low 40°F in San Jose, CA.

Friday, January 5th was pretty much unpacking and settling in at our hotel room. We were greeted by my wife's cousin, Sandy "Red Peach" at the San Jose International Airport and took a rental car to our hotel. Later that evening, we had gone to the Mills in Milpitas where my wife did some shopping After hitting all 6 neighborhoods, we decided to call it the evening and pretty much hit the hay.

Saturday, January 6th was jammed packed of events. Late morning, we had breakfast at Denny's on N. 1st Street, in front of a blazing fireplace. A little too romantic for breakfast. We then visited the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose. The wife and I love hitting the museums that offer interactivies. Working some of the puzzles and creating dolls using nothing but the discarded corn husks, that killed about and hour of our time. As we left the museum, we saw the largest Monopoly game board in the country.

In the afternoon, we had a wedding reception/tea and snack party to attend. My wife cousin, Jean (Sandy's older sister) and Nelson had the wedding in Vegas earlier and had the reception later for those that could not attend the reception in Taiwan. In the evening, the nine of us (Jean, Nelson, Sandy, Nelson's mom, Nelson's brother's girlfriend, my wife, two other friends and I) had dinner at Liou's Chinese Restaurant in Milpitas, CA. Let's just say that something I ate didn't agree with me.

Sunday, January 7th, we made plans to have a DimSum luncheon with Sandy. Jean and Nelson had to work that day so they couldn't join us. The luncheon wasn't bad and would have been better if they had the "chicken feet" delicacy available when we requested it. There was a big demand and I guess the kitchen couldn't keep up.

After lunch, we headed to the largest flea market ij the state of California. Again, we did some shopping just to take it in the experience of the local. This lasted for about anf hour ad we went to "The Tech" museum in San Jose, CA. We only had only an hour to do the interactive stuff before we had to venture to the IMAX theatre featuring "Happy Feet". While the feature was entertaining to watch on the BIG viewing screen, the movie was not t featured on such a large screen, 'ouch, my neck.'

Monday, January 8th, time to pack and say our last goodbyes. We had lunch with Sandy while Jean and Nelson had to work. Oh, in case you're wondering, Sandy was also visiting and on break from her studies in Albany, NY. After lunch, we say goodbye and headed off to the airport. I'm currently over Denver while I'm typing this and will be in Denver airport when this post is transmitted.

Live from San Jose, California...

My wife and I are currently in San Jose, California attending a relative's wedding reception. Since the relative currently lives in the US and much of her friends are in US, a reception is being held in the US but a future reception will also be held when she returns to Taiwan for the other relatives to attend.

The flight from BWI to SJC was very much uneventful with the exception of having our connection flight delayed for about an hour for de-icing procedures and because our connection flight was only 40 some minutes apart from arriving and departing, we had one of our checked-in baggage come in a different flight. We arrived in San Jose, California on Friday, January 5th and the baggage didn't arrive until around midnight, pacific time.

Sarah Lane To Be Off the Market...

Either you haven't heard (because you don't know who Sarah Lane is or don't care), but she's getting married to Brendan Moran (another associate from the TechTV era) and this will be her last week on the show, Attack of the Show. I finally got to meet Sarah on my visit to San Francisco for my birthday about 2-3 years ago, before the TechTV studios of The Screen Savers had moved to Los Angeles.

Highway & Sarah

She's a great and sweet gal and I hope the very best for her and Brendan.

Google Mail Invite Spooler (aka GQueue) to Close in 2006

As some of you might know, I've been providing a service of distributing Google Mail invites to those still not fortunate in obtaining such an invite (http://www.highwayman.org/gmail). Well apparently, Google has gone out of their way to invalidate any invites that's been donated to 'gqueue.spooler.ii@gmail.com'. This meant that the 20,000+ invites are also invalid and as a result, thrown away.

In response, a new e-mail address (gqueue.spooler.iii@gmail.com) has been created that will serve to collect invites from those generous enough to donate his/her invites. However, when the year becomes 2006 -- this service will be shutdown. All donations still being sent will no longer be added to the pool and the webpage servicing the distribution will be taken offline.

This saddens me but this constant battle with Google Mail and creating new e-mail accounts to help collect invites has taken its toll.

I want to thank the hundreds and hundreds of users that have participated in his/her generous donations.

update: If you're looking for a Google Mail invite code, check out http://www.highwayman.org/gmail (it's newer).

The Singing Chick...

Carefree and high-spirit blonde-hair chick sings her heart out as she rides in the car and sings to the song of Dust on the Bottle:

... There might be a little dust on the bottle But don't let it fool ya about what's inside There might be a little dust on the bottle It's one of those things that gets sweeter with time

She was sittin in the porch swing as I pulled up the driveway
My ole heart was racing as she climbed inside
She slid over real close and drove down to the lake road
Watched the sun fade in that big red sky

Prius Number Crunchers

Laura Adams of Bowie, Maryland, a neighborhood outside of Washington, D.C., bought her first-generation Prius in January 2002. "I've always been interested in finding alternate methods of fuel," she said. "I would love to have an electric vehicle, but this is the next best thing."

Adams drives about 50 miles a day to take her children to school and run errands. She wants the world to know that the idea that hybrids are slow is a misconception.

"Our traffic is No. 3 in the nation. I have no trouble merging into lanes and keeping up with traffic," she said. "That bothers me that people think I have to give something up to own this car. [Compared to other compact cars], I don't give up anything in terms of space or in terms of power."

What Adams has given up is high gasoline bills. Her average fuel economy from spring through fall is 48 miles per gallon. In the winter she averages 39 miles per gallon because it takes longer for the engine to warm and to work efficiently. Her all-time best is 57 miles per gallon.

E-Mail Hoax Using Hurricane Katrina Disaster

I received this email from a friend just today with the contents of the e-mail pretty much asking me to 'sign it' and forward it to my friends. This already smells of an e-mail hoax. Here's the contents of the message:

Hello,

For those who don't know me real name it is Brenda or (loily) for some of you. Over here in New York, our med. staff had come up with a plan to help the ones in need. We are willing to give 18 hours of our weekend ( and we don't get paid ) to help the people that are in the path of the storm "Katrina". We have a had a talk with the Red Cross to help us and they said that for email that we send that they were going to donate $.50, you don't have to pay anything. We are not asking for much, just to email this to everyone you know. You can help Rebuild their cities and make a lot of peoples live easier. Many families have had to leave their homes because of this storm. Please sigh your name in the bottom and help us!

when this email has reached 50 names plesae send it to Loily_bb@hotmail.com thank you guys a lot!

First thing that caught my eye was the obvious mispellings and bad grammar:

For those who don't know me real name it is Brenda ...
Please sigh your name in the bottom and help us!

Another mistake, it's Hurricane Katrina and not Storm Katrina.

The other thing that triggered a flag in my mind was that "... Red Cross to help us and they said that for email that we send that they were going to donate $.50 ..." My first thought was -- okay, I've seen too many e-mail hoaxes to know that this is pretty much a hoax; why would Red Cross donate money when they themselves would the organization using the money to help rebuild. They're asking for donations, why would they be making donations to themselves?

This is nothing more than someone's sick social engineering joke to take a serious situation like this hurricane disaster and turn it into an e-mail hoax, clogging up the internet with more junk e-mail.

If you see this e-mail, simply toss it and tell your friend that e-mailed not to do it again.

Gas Prices are Scheduled to Go Up September 1st, 2005

While this is not fully confirmed, what I've been told suggests that gas prices will dramatically increase come September 1st, 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina that struck the southeast area of United States, some more than others. Larger gasoline distributors (eg. Shell, Exxon, Mobil) will have access to purchase additional, but limited, gas supplies while the smaller, independent "cash-only" gasoline distributors (eg. Freestate, Liberty) will not have such access. This means that the smaller "cash-only" gas stations will have to raise their prices at a higher mark-up than the larger chain gas-stations.

These smaller "cash-only" gas stations normally sell gas at a lower price than the larger chains mainly because they don't have the overhead of credit card surcharges and fees. However, some of these "cash-only" station have already raised prices higher than their larger competitors (Shell, Exxon, etc.). The Freestate station in Rockville, Maryland, on the corner of Hungerford Drive (Rockville Pike) and N. Washington Street, has already raised its prices for regular unleaded from $2.91 (in the morning) to over $3.00 just this afternoon; they're likely to raise their prices again when their supply becomes scarce.

An Exxon gas station owner on the same street of N. Washington in Rockville, Maryland mentioned that he had purchased 6,000 gallons for delivery to his station on September 1st and will be raising his price slightly but will still be under $3.00 a gallon.

You may want to fill up your gas tanks before September 1st, 2005.

Sandra's Secret Wedding!

OMG! :)

Sandra's MarriedSandra Bullock is married to Jesse James. This is both sad and wonderful news. SAD that she's no longer available for me (heh heh heh) and WONDERFUL that she's finally married! Wow!

Sandra wore a dress by ANGEL SANCHEZ and walked down the aisle to a taped aria of her mother, an opera singer, crooning "Casta Diva," according to the spokesperson. The bride's ring was vintage, acquired by NEIL LANE, while Jesse's ring was machined by Sandra herself out of stainless steel.

Suture Staples Removed...

Suture/Staples removedWe went to our first follow-up doctor's appointment today after getting out the emergency care about 5 days ago but had been sutured since the 2nd of June. She's still on IV antibotics (Invanz and Vancomycin).

With today's visit, the surgical doctor removed the metal staples (as you can see).

Ping's Home with a PICC

Home with a PICCAs you can see from the picture, she's resting on the chair with an IV bag through a PICC line that she had installed two days ago. I get to do all the prepping. :)

She's getting Vancomycin and Invanz. The nurse came and gave us a quick course in prepping the line.

She's resting comfortably on the chair watching movies on the DVD player.

Ping's Home!

The doctors finally released her from the hospital but she'll need to be on IV-antibiotics for the next two weeks at least. Man, look at all those syringes! Anyways, after seven days in the hospital, my wife was finally released after what turned out to be more than a simple appendectomy. She's on major bedrest for the next few days.

Nothing like "Civilization III - Play the World (Single Player Mode)" for the last seven days... it was driving me bonkers ;)

I'll be working from home, of course, after things have settle down a bit.

Ping's in the Hospital...

My wife is currently in the hospital and has been since Thursday (2005/06/02) morning when she woke up complaining about abdominal pains. We went into the ER at around 4:00AM where her vitals were taken but weren't taken into the ER for examination until 5:30AM. Preliminary diagnoses led to possible appendicitis, but further consultations and discussions were needed between various doctors to come to the conclusion of surgery.

She went into the O.R. at around 5:00PM that day and what hoped to be about an hour turned into about two-and-a-half hours due to the additional discoveries of her condition using laparoscopy to unveil puss growth around her abdominal and uterine regions. She came out of the surgey and prognosis were positive that she'll make a quick and healthy recovery.

People Are Wound Up Too Tight These Days

WOAI: SAN ANTONIO//NEWS

When I read this, I myself thought about it as "kewl" and "f'ing great idea" ... that's total fanaticism at its finest. However, with the way this nation is currently at arms and looking for terrorists in his/her own backyard, drivers are quick to calling-in anything suspicious.

To see this on the highway and not know that this is in reference to a Mad Max ("Mad who?") movie just goes to show you how many people need to go out and spend a night or two at the movies, even watch some oldies.

It took me 14 minutes to cancel my account -- you can only cancel by calling for by faxing... so I called thinking that it would be faster..

WRONG!

The cust rep that I got to talk to tried his best to get me to stay with AOL Broadband service (e.g. listening to concerts, watching movies, etc) .. I kept saying, "No thanks, but thanks for offer) and he even tried offering me a free month of AOL. I understand that he's only doing his job to keep me with AOL... but

{NO!} I thought mentally.

14 minutes later, my account has been closed.

Mesothelioma ??

KookyKat's Webbie Loggie: Mesothelioma and Other Fun Cancer

According to my friend, Amy, this is cancer that's caused by asbestos, like those left in building ceilings from the 60's and 70's. For something like this to be this nasty, you would think that companies would do their best to clean up this mess. Better to spend the money to clean up the mess than suffer going through the lawsuits. Of course, I bet certain company lawyers that practices corporate law would say that the numbers favor the company to say nothing; banking that they person suffering from the cancer won't live long enough to enjoy the money awarded from the lawsuit.

Mesothelioma. It's a great word. Almost rolls right off of the tongue. It is, however, NOT a great type of cancer to get. It is a cancer of the mesothelium, which, for all those non-science types out there, is basically the connective tissue and diaphram in your abdomin (everything that isn't your intestines or other organs in there). It is a characteristic cancer linked to the use of asbestos. Particularly at high risk are those people who were asbestos workers and also smoked.

What does this have to do with anything? Nothing really. I said this before. I've given the short version of it. I've seen a section of mesothelioma when I took basic human pathology a couple of years ago. Nifty stuff. Not nifty enough to wish it on anyone though.

Invite Others on Google's Gmail Just Got Easier

Just so you know, the folks at Google have decided to add more functionality to the 'Google Invite'. You can now easily invite others by simply entering the email address of the recipient and click 'Send Invite'. It's that's simple.

Of course, if you still don't have a Gmail account, the Gmail Queue is the one for you. No contests, no refreshing -- simply add your name to the queue and you'll receive an invite if there are invites still available.

H2 Driver Gets a Major Reality Check

This video is totally hilarious cause I don't like the H2 and what it stands for.

A brief synopsis, a driver attempts to drive his H2 up a rocky terrain, confident that no obstacle is too big. All goes well until *BOOM*. I hope that vehicle is under warranty, otherwise... YOU'RE SO SCREWED!

Remembering the King of Late Night TV

Today, Johnny Carson, the King of Late Night TV, has died (1925-2005) .. he hosted the Tonight Show for 30 years.

I remember watching him on TV when the latest technology in TV was black-n-white. When he retired from the Tonight Show, it was never the same. A great friend to the people and animals (Los Angeles Zoo).

McDonald's New Cheesesteak Sandwich

McDonald's claim that their new Cheesesteak sandwich isn't all that it's cracked up to be. The cheesesteak that I had was a little salty, lacking in meat and looked VERY dry. There was almost no cheese; the cheese was like a single stream, like a ketchup on a hot dog.

I'll give the cheesesteak another chance when I venture to a different McDonald's and see if exists elsewhere.

The New TSS (The ScreenSavers)

Having finally watched the first episode of The Newly 'Revamped' Screen Savers with Kevin Pereira and Chi-Lan Lieu as the shows new hosts -- Kevin Rose and Sarah Lane are still on board, I can honestly say that I will have to watch a couple of more episodes before passing my judgement on the show. It's a shaky beginning and while I don't see quite the same chemistry between Leo and Patrick as with Chi-Lan and Kevin, the energy isn't as wild as before with Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht.

Severe Accident on I-95 Near White Marsh, MD

Highway Reopens After Traffic Nightmare Near Baltimore

Woah! That's all I can say at the time when the whole thing started. It was about 4-something in the afternoon, my wife and I were driving back with our new Ford SUV Escape Hybrid from a wedding when around 4:20 ... things went downhill -- major accidents.

We're fine, we lucked out and avoided ALL collisons, avoided ANY bodily injury, and after several hours of waiting and watching, we drove off without any damages; we were mentally exhausted after the whole thing.

Get a Free Mini iPod -- no scam

http://www.freeiPods.com/default.aspx?referer=8962583

While this might look like a scam (like the many scams you've received in the past), this one looks like it's actually authentic. freeiPods.com is giving away free gifts ranging from gift certificates of $250.00 to a full 20GB iPod (or an iPod mini). I, myself, have signed up to get a free 2-week membership with BlockBusters DVD Rental (like NetFlix).

The only requirements is that you'll need to sign up for one of the ten (10) offers (some are trial memberships which can be cancelled later) and referral of five friends (those friends must also register for a service). Yes, this is a information collection transaction but you actually do get something worth while in return.

So, here's a brief synopsis:

* Sign-Up with freeipods.com
* Sign-Up for one (1) trial membership among the ten (10) being offered.
* Refer five (5) other friends
* Those friends must also sign-up with freeipods.com and register for one (1) of the ten (10) services.

Who are your top 5 celebrity crushes?

In a topic presented on the I <3 Morgan Webb Forum Board, it talks about celebrity crushes. Of course, I'm talking about purely innocent crushes that you get when you see the actor/actress on the silver screen. Having said that, here are mine Top 5 (and when was the first time I saw him/her) and as a guy, my crushes are all female:

1) Sandra Bullock (While You Were Sleeping)
2) Angelina Jolie (Bone Collector, The)
3) Kirsten Dunst (Small Soldiers)
4) Rebecca Budig (Greenlee in All My Children)
5) Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, TV Series)

So, who are your celebrities crushes?

It's Friday....

Can you tell that it's Friday?

Thank god it's Friday!

It's been one of those weeks and starting August 31st, classes begin again for me and my wife. I have about 2 more semesters to go before I complete my Web Technologies certificate to 'further' my education. I'm taking three classes, 1 of them (Web Database Applications) is distance learning so it's bound to be harder just because of the discipline needed to do the work when you never show up for class. The other two are:
Dynamic HTML with JavaScript (2.5 hours) and Web Interactivity and Animation (4.5 hours).

Gee, why do like going to classes? :)

One-Time Use Film Cameras

Before you go all crazy about getting Kodak's Plus Digital One-Time Use Film Camera, check this out.

Kodak Plus Digital CD One-Time-Use Flash CameraWhile this might be a typo in Circuit City's online advertisement saying that it's a 400-speed film (Kodak site says that it's 800-speed), the whole idea is ludacris in that you have to buy this 'special' type of camera just to get digital prints. Many photo development services have the option to include 'digital' prints with your film development. CVS 1 Hour Photo offers this service, yes -- it's an extra service with a small fee but you don't need Kodak's Plus Digital to have digital prints.

In fact, from Circuit City, you can purchase one-time use cameras with 800-speed film at lower prices:

Kodak MAX Flash CameraThe film in the KODAK Plus Digital 35 mm One-Time-Use Camera System is no special film, it's just offering an extra service that stores sell at a higher price making you believe that it can be cheaper to purchase when for $7.25, you can purchase the same type of film and simply pay the $2.00 (this price varies) additional fee to put the film on CDs.

If Bush Wins the Election in 2004, I'm leaving the US...

This is not what you think this journal entry is about. It's not really about Bush other than the fact that I often hear:

If Bush wins re-election, then I'm definitely moving out of the United States.

Then MOVE OUT of the country. That statement is nothing more than a childish act of 'if I can't play, you can't use my ball'.

By moving out, you're only showing how much of a spoiled brat you are. Everyone plays a part in making changes everytime he/she votes and each time you cast a vote, you're making a statement -- if you don't like this person, then don't vote for him/her -- but VOTE. You get your chance to do something about it when it comes down to election.

And if, at the end, the end results aren't what you're hoping for, then do something to make the change next time the elections are held -- talk to other people, convince them. But if you want people to respect your opinions, you have to respect theirs.

But if you really want to leave the country if Bush wins re-election, then LEAVE -- we could use the extra room.

Music Video: Strange New Element (Low Water)

sarah. word.: Get Into the Groove

In case some of you aren't aware of this but my favorite Petite-Tipper from TechTV's the Screen Savers, Sarah Lane, had a cameo appearance on the music video by Low Water called "Strange New Element".

She and some of her TechTV co-workers/friends like Laura Swisher, Cat Schwartz, Morgan Webb and even TechTV alumnus, Sumi Das, helped with the video's production by appearing at the end of the video which is about 3 minutes and 44 seconds.

You can check out the video at Low Water's official website: www.lowwatermusic.com. You can also find a copy of the video on www.iheartmorganwebb.com.

I was able to get a very short e-mail interview with Sarah Lane -- I mean after all, she's a very busy gal at TechTV.

Why do people even do this on a public forum -- I mean, haven't you ever heard of 'a picture says a thousand words' and in this case, we obviously see you doing something very questionable. I hope it doesn't violate your community standards.

"Miss Plum"

Ping & Miss PlumMy wife just got herself the new Dyson Vaccuum -- the Animal and as you can see, she's totally in love with "her", "Miss Plum". She's been wanting this vaccuum since she saw the commercial about it and the recommendations from Fresh Gear on TechTV. Well, she got the call from Bed, Bath and Beyond that a unit was made available to her. So, after work, she picked it up and she assembled it while I still at class.

Hmmm... I hope she doesn't take "her" to bed. :)

So I guess Steve Jobs needs to add another 'use' for the Apple iPod and I bet you this wouldn't have happened it they only gotten the 4GB version instead of the 15GB version, a much larger and heaver version than the 4GB.

So, husbands -- lockdown your iPods... make sure to include the trigger safety locks so that it can't be used against you or used to harm others on the street. Register your iPods with the FBI -- learn how not to become a victim by your own toys.

How quickly one forgets...

There's nothing worse than a career politician, one who won't leave his/her seat in politics -- specifically the US Congress -- for the institution that he/she has fought so long to make better, he/she has become the very problem he/she fought to change.

Many of these quotes were obtained by someone else doing the work but I found this quite interesting --

How many have urged that Iraq is a threat and when something is done about it, the rats quickly left the sinking ship.

President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."

There's more...

Well, I'm back from Taiwan...

Well, in case some of you readers haven't heard, I went back to Taiwan for about 10 days for some rest and relaxation and rallying. My wife and in-laws wanted to go back to Taiwan to vote in the 3/20/2004 Taiwan presidential elections and so - we went back.

My main purpose was to provide support and to take pictures and I took a lot of pictures. You can check it out at my photo gallery (Gallery Site 1 || Gallery Site 2). There are many pictures there and there still some I've not yet uploaded.

The time it took to Taipei, Taiwan was something else. 6-7 hours from JFK to Anchorage, Alaska (refueling) and then from there to Taiwan, 10 hours. On the way back, it was a non-stop flight from Taipei, Taiwan to NY-JFK (14 hours) and then 1 hr to Reagan National.

My first couple of days was fine, didn't have any problems -- it wasn't until I got to my wife's cousin's house (in Mieo-li) and we stayed over. The morning after, we had some ramen noodles -- well, that's when everything went down hill. What I had thought was hunger was simply my stomach having some kind of reaction to that particular ramen noodles. I thought I would take a nap and maybe feel better before we left that night, back to Taipei. When I woke up, I felt worse and my stomach has having some kind of reaction. It wasn't until I vomited the contents in the toilet of the men's room at the train station that I started to feel better. My stomach still a little queasy but much better.

Well, there were many issue while in Taiwan.

On 3/13, we paraded down towards the capital of Taiwanshowing our support for the presidential candidate Lien Chen and his running mate, Soong. Took many pictures there too.

On 3/19, there was also the apparent 'assassination' attempt on the presidential incumbent, Chen Shun-Bien and the vice president, Annette Lu -- how convenient that both the president and vice president were on the same vehicle, wearing no protection and only getting minor gun shot wounds.

On 3/20, Chen Shun-Bien won re-election, many of which believe that the assassination attempt help sway voters to re-electing him.

On 3/21, there was a protest that there were many irregularities in both the election process and the assassination attempt -- conflicting stories, things that just didn't add up.

On 3/22, my wife and I flew back to the states... 14 hour flight. Gawd it's great to be back with HS internet access.

Dude, you are not alone!

I drive to work everyday and everyday, I take the Dulles Toll Road in Virginia -- $0.50 to enter and $0.25 to exit and vice versa. So, I'm about to exit the toll road to head to work and in front of me was a Dark Blue/Black Lexus, behind me was a mack truck. So, the Lexus pulls up to the toll booth and instead of dropping $0.25 and driving off, he stopped and pulled out a 'card' of some sort.

Now, dropping the quarter and driving off would take maybe 5 seconds, 10 seconds, tops. Well, no, he pulls and hands the toll attendant a card that apparently waives the payment of $0.25 or maybe it's deferred. Well, what this prompted was an additional 2-3 minutes waiting. At this point, I can't back up and use the other toll lane because the mack truck is also waiting. You know mack trucks, they're not quick with reversing and using the other toll lane, especially when there still oncoming traffic exiting the toll road.

Petco Pet Supplies

Just a little rant and something to look for when entering such an establishment.

PETCO
2441 Centreville Raod
Herndon, VA
703-713-1552

One sign that the store is poorly run and maintained is when you're standing in front of the fish tanks looking at the fishes and NO ONE comes to ask if you need assistance. Even if you're just looking, someone should come and ask. I waited there for 15-20 minutes, one person was about 10 feet away, stacking boxes and pet supplies but never approached to offer assistance. He would help out those looking at the reptiles but he should have noticed and notified someone working the fish department.

Another sign is when the one person who was in the fish department finished cleaning what she was cleaning and came out from the back and did not even notice me and continue to the other part of the store to stack supplies. I'm not a small person to simply not see. She never came back.

At this point, I was comtemplating on leaving but I wanted to liberate some fishes, in particularly, Red Fin Swordtails and some other assorted swordtails. It was at this point when observing the other tanks, I've noticed that many of the tanks contained dead carcasses of dead fish. Not just one or two, but four or five. In one tank alone, underneath of the decorative stone, there was a graveyard of dead fishes. I've also noticed that there were other fishes that were in poor conditions. It was then that I decided not to purchase any fish as it would risk my fishes that I've already had at home.

I'm not surprised really that there were so many dead fishes and no one bother removing them (saw one frog munching on one of the dead fishes). If no one is there to help out customers, who's there to take care of the dead fishes. Sure it's part of sea/water life, to live and to die and the living feeding on the dead -- but what happens if the fished died of disease?

Anyways, that's it.

I was dropped off at the Best Buy store on Shady Grove Road (Maryland) and the line had already extended about 100 yards from the closed doors of the store. My wife went to the Rockville Pike (Maryland) store to cover more ground.

At the opening at 06:00AM, it was total madness -- I was focused on what I wanted, Maxtor 120GB 8MB Cache 7200 RPM IDE Hard Drive that was going for $139.99 with a $90.00 mail-in rebate. So, overall, I really would have spent $49.99. I got myself two HDs and 5 DVDs ($25.00) [ A Bridge Too Far, Cast Away, When Harry Met Sally, Big Momma's House and Men of Honor ].

'Whew!' ... my first experience :)

Will I do it again? Depends on what's on sale :)

This past weekend (The Hulk DVD)

MovieVoters.Com: Hulk, The

After having a nice dinner with our nice neighbors, the Shilkos -- we sat down to a viewing of the HULK on DVD and I have to admit, this movie suck'd. I like the special effects and computer graphics but the amount of special effects did not help bring the movie to a success. I gave the movie a rating of two and a half (2.5) popcorns (stars) in my movie review site -- and I'm glad I didn't spend the money to watch in a theatre.

More on Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica

Life is a Highway: Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica

Boomer who was originally played by Herb Jefferson, Jr. is now going to be played by Grace Park... yup, Boomer is now a female colonial warrior. Starbuck and Boomer, two chicks -- how Apollo was able to ever defend the fleet, I don't know.

One good thing, there are chicks everywhere *smile*. Tricia Helfer will be playing a cylon named "Number 6".

www.humanforsale.com

According to this site, HumanForSale, I'm only worth $1,805,622.00.

Hmmm... for that price, I get myself out of debt, pay off the house, and still have another for a kick ass computer system. I wonder if I can get Paris Hilton to buy me?

Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica

Ack!

That's all I can say, I just found out (watching the little snippets between shows on Sci-Fi Channel) that the character Starbuck is going to be a woman and how Apollo and Starbuck will take this 'buddy' thing to a whole new level.

Katee Sackhoff will be playing the character of "Starbuck" when the mini-series airs on the Sci-Fi Channel, December 8th.

Talk about a total remake.... they're using missiles!

We have a new DECK to party on!

:: highwayman-dot-org :: the gallery :: :: 2003.11.02 Our New Deck!

Well, we put our new deck to use for the first time last night -- with cooking burgers and steaks on the charcoal grill.

Six Ohama patties followed by six Ohama steak with the edges wrapped with bacon strips. Boy it was good. :) No more grilling front of the house.

I'm back from Vegas...

I know this is a late blog entry but "better late than never" right?

Anyways, I had gone to Vegas with my wife Ping to attend a wedding of her 'aunt' Jean. So, I took the weekend off and we both flew over to Vegas, leaving Friday afternoon and arriving that evening around 10:30PM.

The trip on AirTran Airlines wasn't bad, however the last leg of the trip to Vegas, we got the last row and the last row seats don't recline -- that's just wrong.
