Hurricane Katrina

TechTV Forever run by Eric Craft (and his team) and Long Live TechTV, run by Chris (densefive) and Mark (mrwebauthor) are banding together to try to get people to donate to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund http://www.redcross.org by posting banners and links at their group homepages and drawing attention to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina on their message boards. At LLTTV they have a podcast called 535 York and which they record on Thursday nights about 10pm EST. Please join in Thursday in a moment of silence at the beginning of our podcast. The moment of silence will run from 10pm EST til 10:01pm EST to remember those that lost their lives in Hurricane Katrina. If you can not make the podcast please still observe a moment of silence. We are going to try to make this a continent wide moment of silence. So please spread the word.

Wife and I (actually our Ford Hybrid Escape) were on Discovery Health Channel

Discovery Health Channel aired an episode of Critical Hour which detailed the event that occured on I-95 just north of Baltimore, MD. The sudden mix of rain and hail produced a mist that blanket the view in a pure white haze created by the sunlight. This caused multiple accidents along a 9-mile stretch of I-95.

The 'small' version contains scenes where are Ford Escape Hybrid was shown (our vehicle was closest to the center of the median/ditch). The 'edit' version is pretty much the whole episode that involved the I-95 accident.

It's Worse Than That... He's Dead, Jim

James Doohan (Lt. Cmdr. Montgomery Scott, Star Trek series and movies) died today at the age of 85, the cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer's.

Read more about it at CNN.

As a side note: I'm more of a Star Trek than a Star Wars Fanatic.

TV Ratings Guide Requires Encyclopedia for Decryption...

Man o' man ... TV rating has gotten so complicated -- watching Desperate Housewives there was a TV rating that flashed on the screen:

DLSV

Now, off-hand, this makes no sense what-so-ever and it required a Google search to find this meaning on someone's blog, not the TV ratings website itself, but someone's blog.

DLSV: Letter codes which may appear on-screen with the show’s age-based rating. They indicate the presence of graphic sexual description (D), strong language (L), on-screen sex (S) and violence (V).

Now, who would have thunk it?

Thank You -- Leo, Andy and Amber

I just wanted to thank Leo, Amber and Andy for signing me an autograph and sending it to me. I also want to thank someone else and you know who you are, if you're reading this message, for helping me with getting this autograph.

Autograph from Andy (left), Leo (middle) and Amber (right) on the Call For Help set

I wish you guys would come to the US -- I miss the format of Call for Help in the US and can only watching by downloading the DivX version.

Leo, how do you always end up with the good looking women around you? First Cat, now Amber.

Amber, I love the GREEN BOOTS :)

TV Series: Las Vegas, the CSI of Gambling

Las Vegas TV SeriesI've recently gotten hooked with watching the first season of Las Vegas.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but for the detectives who keep so-called sinners from preying on the innocent at Sin City's posh Montecito Resort & Casino, the secrets and lies are as insideous as any other poison.

That is the show's description that's given on the DVD that I rented from NetFlix. I've already watched the first four discs in a six-disc season.

Another Good Segment Pushed Out

DVD Talk Forum - Announcements in Forum: Other Talk

It appears that DVDTalk.com has decided to break it's ties with G4 and the Screen Savers; this apparently because the producers at G4 wanted to change the format a little and have been trying to push "DVDoe's" and "DVDon'ts" as well as trying to get their writers to be more critical on the DVDs they review. This is apparently the precursor to changing of the show's format and the name "Attack of the Show".

G4 has successfully alienated another contributor to the show for formats that the companies is in the best interests of its viewers.

Bah!

The New TSS (The ScreenSavers)

Having finally watched the first episode of The Newly 'Revamped' Screen Savers with Kevin Pereira and Chi-Lan Lieu as the shows new hosts -- Kevin Rose and Sarah Lane are still on board, I can honestly say that I will have to watch a couple of more episodes before passing my judgement on the show. It's a shaky beginning and while I don't see quite the same chemistry between Leo and Patrick as with Chi-Lan and Kevin, the energy isn't as wild as before with Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht.

G4TechTV Goes Into Restructuring

Kevin Rose Dot Com: Network changes at G4

Well, this came from the host of the show himself, Kevin Rose. G4 Media - has cancelled 'Unscrewed with Martin Sargent'. I'm not surprise really, despite being a late night person, I don't really follow the show religiously and I get the feeling that it's trying hard to be like the "Howard Stern Show" for TV.

Happy Birthday to Sarah Lane!

Well, what I intended to create did not come to fruition as I had hoped. I wanted people to send e-mail to an address that I would later compile the messages into a hard-bound 'book' format and sent to Sarah for her birthday on October 12th. Unfortunately, I didn't get very many responses, so I'll simply post those messages on here.

My personal message to her is: Happy Birthday, Sarah -- it had always been great chatting with you during our times over e-mail. You're a delight on the airwaves and you're a delight to meet in person. Happy Birthday.

-- J.W. (th******igo@comcast.net) writes: Ms. Lane, may the doctor never earn a dollar from you. Happy Birthday, and may you celebrate many more.

SarahCam is back up!

As you know, TechTV was purchased by G4 Media, Inc. and the merger created the new site G4TechTV ... this also meant the consolidation of studios and those in San Francisco (those willing) had to be relocated to Los Angeles, California.

Well, with the shutdown of the San Francisco offices, the SarahCam that many viewers enjoyed watching had to go offline. After a few months of being on hiatus, the webcam has returned and available for everyone to see at the home website of the SarahCam.

You can also catch a glimpse of Sarah Lane on this site -- just look at the top left corner of this blog's main page.

All My Children (2004.06.02)

Okay, what a total turn-around by Babe -- in the previous episode, she told the crowd that Bianca is the mother to Bess. Today, she continued that speech, but not as a confession, rather as a statement and a offering to Bianca that she will always be the mother to Bess (aka Miranda). This throws Kendall into a hissy fit and her mistrust for Babe grows, her paranoia about the whole situation increases and had to be escorted from the party by Ryan.

All My Children (2004.06.01)

Finally!

Babe broke down and told Bianca (as well as the entire Pine Valley socialites attending the Chandler wedding) the truth about Bess being Bianca's baby, Miranda. Poor Tad, trusting Krystal that the DNA paternity test actually read as the baby being Babe's, that Krystal had switched/falsified the report.

Seeing the preview of the Wednesday's episode -- Kendall has a major mean streak -- she just has no love in her and will do anything to destroy anyone that gets in her way or betrays Bianca. She needs a major hug.

Improved Offer from TechTV, Leo Laporte returns

The Laporte Report: The People Have Spoken

I'm very pleased to say that thanks to your overwhelming show of support and to a strong desire on both our parts to come to an agreement, TechTV has improved its offer and I've decided to climb back aboard the good ship Call for Help.

This is defintely great news to hear about Leo Laporte who has made (in my opinion) The Screen Savers and Call For Help very enjoyable to watch as well as understandable when it comes to geek talk to layman talk. While he'll no longer host The Screen Savers (this was already decided by Leo prior to the breakdown in contract agreement), it's better than nothing.

Sarah Lane's First TSS

sarah. word.: Hyperventilation.

Sarah Lane (aka, The Petite Tipper) hosted her first The Screen Savers tonight -- Patrick and Leo were both at the Consumer Electronics Association in Las Vegas, Nevada. She did well and was quite funny -- she co-host with her on-the-air/off-the-air boyfriend, Kevin Rose (aka, the Dark Tipper). Here now are some of the screen captures from that episode (sorry about the quality, I don't have HD-TV):

Token Asian Guy Avoids Cut

NBC.com > Average Joe: Hawaii

OY MAH GAWD! The "token-asian" guy, Phuc, made it past the first round of cuts. As you might recall, the Hawaiian guy from the original series of the Average Joe was cut in the first round.

While on the website, I took the weekly poll and was not surprised to find that 78% of the people who took the poll said that "none of the Average Joes" will be lucky in love.

So next week it's gonna be the Jocks versus the Geeks.

The Simple Life

Talk about CRAP reality TV ... FOX's The Simple Life has to be the crappiest of all the reality TV kick that telvision studios are jumping on. Okay, maybe it's just the Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie that make the show SUCK!. The show's producers take two people who have no inkling of what life is really like for those that work so hard to earn $7.75/hr. Paris and Nicole have done nothing to earn they money and live mainly to spend the fortunes that their relatives have build to gain.

Paris Hilton -- you have no redeeming quality other than having your sexscapades published all over the internet. You lack of respect for the working class, your constant complaining and your inability to even try makes me think that if you're suddenly cut off from your wealth and forced to earn money, you would go into prostitution and make only $25 per trick.

Nicole Ritchie -- although your not a Hilton sister, you live off the scraps thrown by Paris Hilton -- your constant need to undermine everything that you don't want to do makes you as spoiled and bratty as Paris Hilton. Every man is a sex object to you, even working in a fast food place like Sonic, the place is nothing more than a place to scope out guys for a quick fuck. If you have to make a living as a prostitute (just as Paris), you might make more than her only because you're hornier than rabbit in heat and would do anyone.

FOX television producers ... jump off the damn bandwagon and make some quality TV shows ... you had a great start with the many successful sitcoms that you had aired, but you're now trying to make a quick buck as all the television studios. Stop trying to play catch-up and do something different, something new.

Survivor Bastards

Those survivor bastards, they voted Rupert off the island. I want to see how long those who voted him off the island last -- like those who began on the island on the Drake team, ONE fish will not feed the tribe -- catching one STINGRAY will NOT feed the entire tribe.

Oh don't get me wrong, Christa and Sandra had their moment of weakness too when Drake was still Drake, they conspired to vote off Rupert -- but they were the best of all the alliances with the least conspiracy among the team.

Down with Balboa!

Survivor: Pearl Island

The 7th season of Survivor (Pearl Island) has just begun and I'm already cheering for the Drake team. The theme of this season's is "Pirates" and the Drake team has already embodied that philosophy.

For those that haven't watched it yet, I'll leave my details in the link...

ON THE NEXT SURVIVOR

  • When one tribe wins the first Reward Challenge, they learn of a new twist: one member may visit the losing tribe's island to pillage and loot one item from their supplies!

  • A tribe is stunned when one Survivor conffesses a desire to quit the game.

  • Rupert, Drake's "Blackbeard," goes into a rage after learning that a tribemate has lost something crucial to Drake's survival, but is determined to recover it at all costs.

  • It's a desperate battle of mind and body for immunity, where every last second will decided the winner in a photo finish you must see to believe.

As stated, this season's is based on the theme and story of pirating -- team Drake has already embodied that philosophy. After coming back to shore, Rupert had taken advantage of the situation when members of team Morgan left their 'goods' with Rupert, thinking that it was safe.

Rupert took their [Morgan] goods and bartered with the local village folk for supplies. I said, "HOO AH! Good move!"

Team Drake also had the advantage of having a spanish-speaking team member who knows how to barter. She traded many things for supplies, including her golden chain, that was around her neck, for about a dozen barbequeued chicken legs, aluminum foil, and various pots and pans. They also purchased a live chicken to take back to camp.

Rupert is the man who thinks. The team leader(s) of team Drake, two high-living professionals thought they did good when they went out spear fishing and brought back ONE fish. How are 8 people going to live off one fish? The two felt that they were the 'shit' for bringing back a fish. Rupert saw how successful it was to spearfish and thought to try it himself. He was so good at it, he brought back 6 fishes (he wanted to bring back 8 so that everyone had a chance to feast on a fish).

Well, in the challenge, Team Drake won and three men on Morgan disrobed their pants (because Osten complained how his shorts are too loose and he couldn't keep his shorts up). Not wanting to leave him feeling alone, the two designated leaders offered to disrobe themselves to keep him company. Having lost, Team Morgan must vote off a member. The scheming begans, most of the members have figured on voting Ryan S. off but Nicole, in the attempt to manipulate the game, told Lillian that she wanted to vote Tijuana off. This was brought to the attention of the team and, in anger and retribution, the team voted Nicole off the island (7 to 1).
